A Sad Goodbye To Mickey’s Toontown Fair

Today is the very last day guests will be able to look at Toontown within Magic Kingdom at Disney World and this is because the land has fallen victim to the new expansion project of Fantasyland. Many of you would not have spend the best memories at Disney in this land but do not think of this as a land that will not be missed. Not only did it contain one of the best spots to greet all of your characters on a constant basis but it had Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s houses as well as the great first roller-coaster for kids, Goofy’s Barnstormer.

The History Of Mickey’s Toontown Fair

Originally the land was opened in 1988 as Mickey’s Birthdayland as it marked the 60th Birthday of the most famous mouse in the world, Mickey Mouse. After the celebrations for this were over it was renamed Mickey’s Starland in 1990 and finally received it’s final name in 1996.

As you can see the history of the land is not a very long one but it is an interesting one and many people are outraged by the lands closure, especially for the closure of the two houses.

Transition From Toontown To Fantasyland

Although the closing of the town is sad and their are lots of things people are going to miss there are reasons for Disney doing it and it is to make a better land for everyone visiting in the park by 2013/14. Fans of the Barnstormer will not be saddened for long as they are reopening the ride with Goofy as the great Goofini in a couple of years.

So if you are out there today say goodbye from me and enjoy your last day in Toontown. I am a bit sad to see it go but I know it is for the best and that people of all ages are going to all love the new look of Fantasyland when it is ready. Do not forget also that Disney have always said that Toontown was just a temporary land while they got on with planning other things.
