Disney Announce AVATAR Is Coming To The Animal Kingdom

This is certainly one of the strangest partnerships I have seen Disney take on in recent years, and certainly one that has got a lot of fans kicking off over. It would seem that Disney are teaming up with James Cameron to create some kind of AVATAR themed attraction within the Animal Kingdom. What are the possibilities of this partnership and what could it mean for future Disney attractions, is it really as bad as some Disney fans think?

A Land
Disney have been talking about getting rid of the Camp Minnie Mickey area for quite some time now as it is safe to say there really isn’t much in there worth worrying about. As long as they keep the Festival of the Lion King I can’t see too many Disney fans really bothered by it. It would make sense for Disney to create something really special with this franchise, could it be something to content with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter?

Just A Ride
Another option that Disney could take on is to simply create an attraction within the park and leave it at that. Do not forget that some of the most popular attractions at Disney World (Star Tours) are not Disney films in their own rights! Adding something like this to the Animal Kingdom would really put it in serious contention with the other three parks.

Whatever Disney decide to do it is always in the best interest of the parks visitors and although this is a slightly strange partnership, it should still be an interesting one!

Refurbishment Cancelled On It’s Tough To Be A Bug!?

It looks like that the planned refurbishments that were going ahead in August to the attraction in the Animal Kingdom are no longer going to happen but what is the reason for this? Whilst Disney haven’t officially confirmed a reason here are just a few of my thoughts on the matter.

It’s Summer!>

Those of you that read my previous post on the attraction closing for refurbishment in the first place will remember how surprised I was that Disney were intending on closing one of the best attractions at the Animal Kingdom right in the middle of the peak season. It may be that they have come to their senses and realised that whilst Animal Kingdom is an awesome park it doesn’t contain the number of attractions that the other parks have so all attractions need to stay operating during one of the busiest times at WDW.

It’s Closing

Of course the other option out there is that the attraction is going to be closing for good and although this would be terrible news it has been something that Disney have been thinking about for years (I have spoken about it in other posts too) and replacing it with something that doesn’t frighten the heck out of kids! Although I personally think it would be a great shame to see the attraction close as it is one of my favourites I do understand the reasons.

So what do you think is happening to It’s Tough to be a Bug?

Does Animal Kingdom Need To be Expanded? (By Florida Girl)

Animal Kingdom is an awesome Disney park.

In fact it is my favourite park to go to; with animals, a good mixture of rides and even a character breakfast. however, there is so much space around the park that could be used up, leading to the question; could it be built on?

Last year and this year, everytime we ended up at the park, my partner bought up the question, leading to a big discussion between us about the right thing to do. He thinks there needs to be more to the park, I on the other hand, think it’s lovely the way it is.

The Lake

Throughout Animal Kingdom there is a lake running right through the middle. It houses no animals that you can see and doesn’t really serve too much purpose. Because of this my partner feels it needs to be drained and built on. However, the lake gives the park character and when you’re walking over one of the two bridges, it gives the place a calm, if not slightly romantic feel. The only Disney park you can really consider calm, even at the busiest times of the day. With the lake gone and more loud rides and concrete in its place, the park would seem rowdy and even hotter than it already is.
As well as this, it means the boat that comes from certain Disney hotels would no longer be able to run and it would mean more cause for Disney buses.

Trees and Greenery

Animal Kingdom is full of green land and trees. It makes space a bit tight but it gives the animals plenty of space, environment and privacy. Although my partner is adamant the park would be better with more space to build on, sometimes you need to think about other things. If the trees were cut down then the animals would have no separation from the people watching them. Their space would be limited and would keep getting smaller. With loud noises from the rides and people the animals would become unhappy and hide away.

Taking away the landscape would mean the whole theme of Animal Kingdom would change. It would no longer be a tropical, jungle styled park, it would be like any other typical theme park. \the magic would be lessened and at some point people would see the mistake, there would be no calmness in busy times and the park would be hot all day with no shelter.

Do you think Animal Kingdom should expand? If you do then fair enough, but Animal Kingdom ahs plenty to offer and doesn’t need anymore to make it an amazing place. It is the only park you can finish in half a day and this is a good thing because it measn you can take your time and actually relax on the busiest holiday you will ever go on.

Would you really want to change that?

It’s Tough To Be A Bug Closing- But Just For Refurbishment!

You might wonder why I have put just for refurbishment in the title but fans of the attraction will know that Disney have considered closing it down for good for quite a few years now and it is good to see that this will be closing for just a small refurbishment between August and October! So why are Disney even considering closing this fantastic Animal Kingdom attraction?

Is It’s Tough To Be A Bug Too Scary?

Believe it or not but one of the biggest complaints that cast members get at the Animal Kingdom park comes from this attraction scaring children and it is understandable to a certain extent. Within the 3D show you are stung in the back by bees, attacked by spiders and even cockroaches crawl underneath you, it is enough to scare any full grown man let alone a child. On the other hand, what did you expect from a bug show? The show itself is full of hilarious moments that more than make up for the scary parts and I have been in the audience where I have heard 50+ kids cry and other times the only thing I can hear is laughter.

Good News For A Bug’s Life Fans

Of course the great news is that it doesn’t seem that Disney are planning on closing the attraction anytime soon which is fantastic as A Bug’s Life is my favourite Pixar movie and one of my favourite movies of all time and the attraction is certainly one of my favourites too.

What do you think about It’s Tough To Be A Bug, is it too scary for kids?

So Why Is Primeval Whirl Closed?

A lot of people will be aware that the opening date for Primeval Whirl has once again been pushed back, this time with an expected September 14th re-opening. Now a lot of people are asking Disney cast members why this has happened and before you do this perhaps you need to do you research because it isn’t something that a lot of people will be very happy to talk about.

Tragedy On Primeval Whirl

Sadly the reason the attraction closed in the first place wasn’t through planed maintenance at all but due to the tragic death of a cast member. It is not fair to go mentioning names but sadly the cast member in question was struck in the head by the attraction vehicle as he was trying to work on the ride.

Disney are sticking to US law by keeping the attraction closed whilst investigations occur and September reaches the end of the six months that they can choose to keep it shut for. Of course I am sure Disney are also keeping it shut to show respect to the cast members friends and family.

Photo Of The Week- 21-03-2011 Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade Bird

The reason I have chosen this photo for this week’s photo of the week is simply down to the fact that people often forget about this fantastic parade at the Animal Kingdom.

This is one my favourite parades at Walt Disney World simply because you can see a lot of effort has been put into the Animal Puppets that are seen during the course of the parade. The actors really do give it their best by using the puppets to get as close to the crowd as they possibly can.

Taste Of Africa For Animal Kingdom?

Just a quick one today really as it is more as rumor than anything else. It would seem that The Taste Of Africa is said to becoming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this summer and this it what it said to involve.

Food

African culture is the key to this event so a wide variety of African foods are going to be available for either trying or purchase, however as all Disney employees will tell you, what is ever free at Disney. Expect to pay for this as Disney are never ones to miss out on anything.

Music

Although you can catch African music at various times during the day within Africa at Animal Kingdom it would seem that with the Taste of Africa, Disney are going to show a bit more of this as well as perhaps getting people involved like they love to do now at the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

Parade?

A smaller parade has also been rumored to be taking place during this time of the Taste of Africa. It hasn’t been confirmed by Disney but I wouldn’t expect this to take the place of the regular parade that goes around the park at 3pm everyday.

It has not been announced if this is going to be a permanant addition to the park but other than the above, extra shopping facilities have been brought forward along with other live entertainment other than the parade and music.

I will keep you up to date as soon as Disney say something on this matter.

Old School Sunday- Animal Kingdom

I thought I would do something a bit different today by showing something a bit old school from one of the theme parks. This time it isn’t that old but then again nor is the Animal Kingdom. However here is the very first revealing trailer to the Animal Kingdom park. I remember it well as this hit my television just weeks before I was heading out there to enjoy the park for the very first time.

So without further ado, the Animal Kingdom’s very first TV spot.

For all you Disney fans out there I am sure this brought back many, many good memories.
